I served in the Navy.
Velma Lorene Lovelace, a resident of McIntosh, Alabama, was called home on Saturday, May 14, 2022. She was 70 years old. Velma was born September 07, 1951. After graduating Acadia Baptist Academy in Eunice, Louisiana, she served her country in three separate branches of the United States Military. After completing her service, she returned home to McIntosh, Alabama, to help care for her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. She was well known throughout her community and will be remebered for her intellect, independence, animated personality, and very extensive travel. Velma was a modern day road warrior, but above all, she was a loving mother and mother figure to many who pushed and valued education. In a crowd of a million, Velma would be the one to stand out the most.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, George and Izola Reed; siblings, Erna Orso, Benjamin Reed, Sr., Alvin Reed, and Curly Reed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, William D. Lovelace; children, Marion Weaver, Alvin Weaver (Thao), and Kelcie Weaver; grandchildren, Hunter ''Ace'' and Serenity; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

A wake will be held for Velma from 6pm until 9pm Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at Freeman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2pm Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Reed's Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Orso officiating. Burial will follow in Reed's Chapel Cemetery.
