Opal Young Turner, a resident and pillar to the Citronelle community, went to her Heavenly home Saturday, July 24, 2021. She was 62 years old, born April 09, 1959, to the late Aaron and Ethel Mae Young. Opal was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church and her love for the Lord was shown throughout her life. Everything she did was for the glory of God, whether it be helping her community or raising her family. Together with her husband of 42 years, Opal raised a beautiful family while caring for her family farm that not only took care of the family, but also was made abundant to the Citronelle community. Opal was always helping throughout the community and devoting her time to helping others, which she did so humbly. Her humility is passed onto her children and grandchildren, and her light will shine through them for generations to come.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Hilton L. Turner; her children, Elton Turner (Cristi), Kendra Risner (Tim), Ira Turner (Jessica), Kristy McWain (Judd), and Kaylene Cooper (David); her grandchildren, Evan, Bre, Coltyn, Jase, Ransom, Casetyn, Ryman, Kamreigh, and Briggs; her siblings, Ronald Lambeth, Gayle Young, Karen Sue Peters, and Daniel Allen; her special nephews, Neal Turner and Keeven Turner, and many more nieces and nephews; and a multitude of other family members and countless friends.

A wake will be held for Opal from 5pm until 9pm Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Bethel Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 10am Friday, July 30, 2021, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Marvin Robinson and Rev. Stan Clayton officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Memorials may be made in honor of Opal to Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund at 16641 Prine Road, Citronelle, Alabama 36522. Online condolences may be given at www.freemancitronelle.com. I just watched the tribute video for Ms. Opal. You could see the love between her and her children as well as her grandchildren. I knew Opal from school and have bought produce from her and her family. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and the community. Her testimony will live forever.

We regret that we didn’t know Opal personally…just a smile or wave at the school or ballpark or paying her when we picked up some of the finest watermelons in these parts. But we have been blessed to be acquainted with the strong and respectful children she and Hilton have raised into fine young adults. Every one of them is friendly, humble and kind and it is obvious that they have a strong family bond. That’s quite a feat in this day and time. We’re certain she had to be an awesome mother and grandmother and are more certain she will be sorely missed by everyone who had the privilege to know and love her. Your family has been in our thoughts and prayers ever since we heard. We are so sorry for your loss. May God’s Holy Spirit hug you all a little closer during this most difficult time.

Opal was a precious friend and one of the most godly women I ever knew. You never doubted her love for God, her family, church, friends and community. She was a true example of a servant for God in everything she did. When she told me she was praying for me or our family I never doubted that she wasn't. We spent many days and nights on softball fields or concession stands or in gyms for volleyball with Jordan and Kristy and those are some of my best memories. It was an honor to be loved by her and her family. Jeff and I love you all and will continue to pray for peace and comfort for you all.

We are not sure of the date and time, but we remember well that particular Sunday morning at Bethel Baptist Church. Bro. David was preaching and in the middle of his sermon, the young woman sitting in front of me began shaking and crying...I put my hand on her shoulder, it was Opal. She looked back at me with tears welling up in her eyes, got up and made a beeline to the front of the church. Bro. David stopped and went to her.  Opal gave her life to her Saviour!! Everyone rejoiced!! Opal is with her Saviour now, and I rejoice in that knowing my friend is forever... OK. See you again one day my sister! God bless and comfort Hilton and all the family in the time of pain and grief.
