Sarranebeth Byrd Chestang, a resident of Mount Vernon, Alabama, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021. She was 69 years old. She retired after 28 years from Mobile County School System as a bus driver. She loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She was an avid Alabama football fan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leamon and Octavia Byrd; and nephew, Chad Byrd. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Paula (Taylor) Deese, Henry (Patsy) Taylor, Leamon (Stacey) Taylor, Kenneth Chestang, Bula (Matthew) Jackson, Travis Byrd, and Alanah (Lucy) Rivers; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Tex (Alpha) Byrd, Spencer (Barbara) Byrd, Leamon Jr. (Bonnie) Byrd, Rita Byrd, Melton Byrd, Kattie (Keith) Byrd, Audrey (Matt) Byrd, Sebron (Susan) Byrd, and Robin (Hal) Weaver; a host of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. A wake will be held from 6pm until 9pm Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Freeman Funeral Home with Rosary beginning at 5:45pm. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11am Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Rev. John Coghlan, celebrant. Burial will follow in Byrd Cemetery.
